Description BART 18-5p is one of the miRNAs that are abundantly expressed in latently infected resting memory B cells in vivo, with 300 copies per cell. Because EBV does not express any proteins in latently infected memory B cells, high levels of 18-5p expression may suggest a role for this miRNA in maintenance of viral latency. In this paper, we report on the identification of a target gene for 18-5p that implicates it in maintaining latency by suppressing viral replication.
